Forgotten Harvest is a well-known nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger and food waste in the Metro Detroit area. Founded in 1990, the organization has been rescuing surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants, and other sources and delivering it to local emergency food providers. Their mission is to alleviate hunger and prevent nutritious food from going to waste. Forgotten Harvest operates a variety of programs, including mobile pantries, school-based programs, and community outreach initiatives, to reach those in need. With a team of dedicated volunteers and staff, the organization has been able to make a significant impact on the community, providing millions of pounds of food to those facing food insecurity each year. By addressing both hunger and food waste, Forgotten Harvest is making a vital difference in improving the lives of individuals and families in the Detroit area.

An efficiently managed nonprofit organization with a newly constructed, beautifully adorned front lobby. The warehouse is impeccably organized and tidy, and the staff members are truly exceptional.
I reached out to the volunteer email on December 20th to set up a time for a group from my work (15 of us) to come support the organization on January 10th. I received one email back asking for more information and then silence. I called FH to see if I could speak directly to the volunteer coordinator and was given a direct email instead. I sent an email directly to her to see if our time slot was confirmed, but received no response. It’s frustrating when an organization says it wants volunteers but then straight up ignores you. I get things happen but at least communicate. The individual I spoke to on the phone was super lovely so I want to give a kudos to her.
SAD SAD SAD!! Today, November 9, 2023 as I'm waiting here in line at the mobile pantry site at Dem Padre located 999 Fort Street in Lincoln Park, I witnessed all of the volunteer workers steal large garbage bags, and grocery carts full of the free food. They each loaded up the trunks of their cars and vans with all the food they wanted prior to opening up the site for the needy people who have been waiting in line for hours before the scheduled start time. When I asked one of the workers why were they taking food away from the less fortunate they all started laughing in my face. They acted as if they couldn't understand what language I was speaking. One person started talking in a foreign language and walked away. Unfortunately by the time most of us arrived to the front get pur food, all the food was gone. We was told to go on the website and look for another location for either today or tomorrow. I wasted 2 hours and burned gas to get to this location only to drive away with nothing!
I'm so disappointed 😞
I went to a forgotten harvest food distribution center in Detroit 2 times this year. Although very grateful for what I got, I noticed that each time I went, There were no fresh fruits or vegetables available. It appears as if Detroit partners get what no one else wants. Reminds me of the food in the grocery stores. Always the last on the totem pole. Heartbreaking, but very true.
Lately I try and go to different locations and none of them really have meat mostly side items and I feel like alot of these different locations ya'll donate food to the people that give out food they steal the meat before they give out the food I think ya'll should do a better job of making sure these places ya'll donate to don't steal the food at this point I have so many sides I don't need side items we need meat where is the meat where is the chicken ?
Good work by good people. Organized, efficient. Food in hungry bellies. Be patient, a lot of peoole to help.
Beautiful mission and very accommodating and helpful with volunteers looking to support the community!
The forgotten harvest had helped me and my family when we barely had food so I'm so grateful for all the good people in the company
